We’ve known since early August that Motorola Atila and Alexander touchscreen phones are in the works. However, could two Motorola smartphones arrive in the near future? Quite possibly. According to short but sweet article in Digitimes, Taiwanese hardware manufacturer Compal has received an order from Motorola for two Windows Mobile smartphones, codenamed the Alexander and Attila. Then, today a couple of live pics of Motorola’s new Alexander and Attila handsets have surfaced.

The only new thing that can be gleaned from these pictures is the screen size of Motorola Alexander. We know that Attila wil have 2.8″ display, and Alexander’s screen in the picture is obviously smaller. So it probably will be 2.6″. The quad-band Atila includes the Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system. It will reportedly be Motorola’s flagship handset.
The Alexander is believed to include a five- or eight-megapixel camera, as well as assisted GPS capabilities. It sports a full QWERTY keyboard behind its sliding top panel.Apparently, these two new phones are scheduled for a release in the first quarter of 2009. The original release date was sometime at the end of this year

The DevTeam has released iPhone Linux! With iPhone Linux you can have the iPhone Linux OS running on your iPhone or iPod Touch. This is a rough first draft of the port, and many drivers are still missing, but it’s enough that a real alternative operating system is running on the iPhone.

The software primarily includes the main Linux 2.6 kernel as well as rudimentary graphics, serial, and other functional drivers that are just enough to get a command line running when input is sent over the USB interface; the accelerometer, audio, networking and even the touchscreen have yet to receive any kind of software support. Developers have also made a basic multi-boot front end known as OpeniBoot that lets users toggle between Apple’s own operating system and an alternative platform.
Here are some iPhone Linux features:
- Framebuffer driver
- Serial driver
- Serial over USB driver
- Interrupts, MMU, clock, etc.

Motorola announced yesterday the latest additions to its digital cordless home phones, the D10 and D11. Both models boast an intuitive design in a sleek sculptural form, and are easy and comfortable to use in the palm of your hand. It fits for you who want to save on power consumption, as it has an eco mode means less battery power and more talking, while an optimised output adjusts itself depending on how far the phone is from the base unit.

Both Motorola handsets are ultra-slim, a unique “glow-ring” which pulsates to indicate missed calls, messages and other events, polyphonic ringtones, handsfree speakerphone and 100-entry phonebooks. Before you dismiss this as another cheap imitation of a popular mobile phone, you might be interested to know that the QiGi i6 is available with either Windows Mobile or Android under the hood.

Although a choice of operating system is typically limited to computers, China’s QiGi is apparently now offering the same option for their i6 mobile phone. True, the HTC Touch-like exterior is a bit of a turn-off, but the specs are nonetheless pretty decent. The QiGi i6 comes with a 2.8-inch touchscreen, 624MHz processor, 2-megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. No 3G, but I guess the rest of its features will be more than enough for the average mobile phone user.
The thought of having OS options is indeed tempting, but I highly doubt that this particular model will be headed towards the North American market anytime soon. We are hopeful however that this will get the ball rolling in regards to providing consumers with more choice in an operating system. It might be a far fetched idea, but if it’s possible in China, why not elsewhere?

Those waiting for the BlackBerry 8900 Curve, more commonly referred to as the Javelin, might not have to wait until next year after all.
Apparently, Rogers has quietly launched the 8900 for $179.99 on a 3-yr contract with a voice and data plan of $45 or more, $499.99 on a 2-yr contract with data plan, $524 for 2 years with no data, and $549 for a single year or month-to-month. The bad news is that shortly after this news broke, the device was already appearing as out-of-stock. This begs the question: is the BlackBerry 8900 Curve a really popular phone or is Rogers just taking orders for a device that they have yet to receive?
Anyway, we’ll probably hear an official announcement from Rogers pretty soon. For now, you can take your chances with a competent Rogers customer service representative who might be willing to take your order and place you on a priority list when the new stock of the Javelins arrive. If not, you can wait for the official launch which, in light of this recent development, we’re hoping will happen before Christmas.

The Nokia E71 is finally available at Rogers. Based on our source’s conversation with a knowledgeable CSR, the Nokia E71 will retail for $349.99 on a 3-yr contract, $374.99 on a 2-yr contract, $524.99 for a single year and $749.99 contract-free. However, if you’re an existing Rogers subscriber, you can opt for a hardware upgrade and get it for just $99.99 with a minimum voice and data plan of $45/month. Unfortunately, this latest offering hasn’t been uploaded to the Rogers website just yet, but we’re pretty sure it’ll be online in the coming days.
The Nokia E71 is considered as one of the best Eseries phone to date by many sectors and was originally slated for a Fido release. It’s switch to Rogers is like a result of the Fido rebrand, but whatever the reason, we’re just glad that it’s finally available in Canada.

Gambling has always been a popular pastime, and casinos have to tighten their belts with today’s economic slump, so the word is gambling companies are looking to the mobile phone arena as a possible venture.
At the 5th Annual Mobile Gambling Summit in London last week the general consensus was that mobile gambling will rise over the next twelve months, and therefore gambling firms across the UK are preparing to launch casino and bingo applications for mobile phones in 2009.
Co-founder of Mfuse, a mobile gaming software developer company, Charles Palmer, states: “In the past year our clients have taken more than 100 million pounds in bets through mobile devices, which suggest the market is developing very quickly.”

The iPhone Dev Team have been at it again, and this time they have ported Linux to the Apple iPhone and Apple iPhone Touch.
The Dev mastermind bringing most peoples favourite open source operating system to the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch is planetbeing, and although a little rough round the edges, which means no touch-screen drivers, WiFi, mobile radio, or sound support, it is definitely a step in the right direction.
The Dev Team have put together a short demo of Linux on the iPhone which you can find below. So what’s next for the iPhone Dev Team, maybe porting Android to the Apple iPhone perhaps?

Most are aware that Motorola is working on two new touch-screen smartphones, the Motorola Alexander and the Motorola Atila, and recently there have been a few images flying around, and we have another for you which could be seen as confirmation that these two smartphones are defiantly on the way.
Not a great deal is know about the Motorola Alexander and Atila spec wise, but from the images we can take a guess on a couple of things, well one thing actually and that’s screen size.
It is known that the Motorola Atila will sport a 2.8 inch display and judging by the image, the Motorola Alexander looks to be sporting a screen somewhere in the region of a 2.6 inch. Other than that we’ll keep you posted as and when we find more.
